2 Things That Fuel Motivation

Just Some Good ‘ol Motivation For You.

To be motivated is to have the power that pushes you toward taking action and toward achievement. Where there is motivation, there is clarity, initiative, direction, courage, energy, and the persistence to follow your goals.

So what happens if you begin to lose motivation for something you were once so fired up about? Why does this happen?

Think of motivation like a fire, and in order to keep a fire burning you need things to burn, right?  There are two things in particular that will keep your fire burning: Commitment and perseverance.

Commitment is doing something you said you would do, after you no longer want to do it. A lot of people mistake commitment for ‘’interested.’’  When you are highly interested in something you’ll do whatever is convenient.  But when you are truly committed, you’ll do whatever it takes for success. It’s a good idea to ask yourself before committing to something if you are truly committed or if you are just highly interested.  This will help you prioritize and be honest with anyone else who may be involved.

When your commitment is being challenged, think back to why you started in the first place. Get in touch with your “why.”  Once you remember why you started in the first place, your fire will begin burning again.

Perseverance is the ability to continue doing something when you feel tired, worn out, and run down.  It’s the internal overdrive that kicks into place when you feel like quitting. Perseverance requires practice. Just like a marathon runner, you build your ability to go longer and harder.  You do this by continually reaching your limits over and over until you learn how to go beyond them. Don’t mistake building perseverance with burning out.  Burnout is when you go beyond your limits before you build perseverance.  A good thing to keep in mind while building your endurance levels- there’s a difference between reaching up and stressing out. One feels like you’re overcoming resistance, the other feels like you are abusing yourself. Even though you might be tired, building perseverance will always feel like you’re accomplishing something.

When your perseverance is being challenged, reach for empowerment. Pat yourself on the back for overcoming obstacles. Celebrate your small accomplishments. Acknowledge you are doing more than you ever thought you would.

If you are willing to build your perseverance and practice commitment, you will consistently be feeding your fire of motivation.  As long as you are motivated, you will find every resource you need to finish. Motivation is KEY to your success.  Stay in the game, my friend. You’ll be happy you did!
