Change Is Good

The only thing constant in this world is change. There are two types of changes we experience in our life:

1. A change that occurs through a positive or negative unexpected circumstance.
2.A change that we consciously decide to create.

The first type of change can cause unexpected stress, grief, and sudden feelings of insecurity. These are the kinds of changes we tend to fear because they are usually caused by an event that happens outside of our control. This would include a death, divorce, loss of job, or a scary diagnosis. This type of change can also be caused by a happy occurrence such as a marriage proposal, winning money, getting the promotion you thought you weren't qualified for, or meeting your soul mate. Therefore, these kinds of changes can also bring a burst of faith, hope, happiness, and safety.

The second type of change occurs when you innately feel it is time to move on or into something new. This can also be scary, but you tend to feel more in control of the situation. Feelings can range from exhilaration to anxiety, but the point is that you are the one instigating the change and you are learning how to stand behind your new decisions.

Both types of change can cause a level of stress and there are ways to manage your stress through the changes:

1. Know when you need help and ask for it. Who are the people you can go to for assistance, support, or just a listening ear. It might also be a good time to look into getting a mentor, coach, or therapist who can help you cope with things.

2. Massive self care. Whether you instigated the change or not, and no matter what your stress levels are, you deserve to be taking care of yourself in massive ways. Ask yourself what you need. What do you do to take care of yourself? Nature walk? Salt bath? Dancing? Reading in a quiet space? Do the things that fill your soul.

3. Acceptance vs resistance. I write about this in my book, "What Would Angels Do?" Basically, anything you are resisting can get really uncomfortable and you can actually become a really toxic person by being in resistance to change over the course of time. Acceptance doesn't necessarily mean you agree with the change, it just means you are willing to take a realistic look at what is actually happening outside of your wish for it to be different. This is the only way you can start making decisions on how to cope and move forward. As hard is it may be sometimes to accept things as they are, staying stuck in the "what if's" and "I don't want this!" is a lot more painful.

Let's explore how you feel about change, heal any wounds that came from unexpected change, and ask ourselves what healthy changes we need to make now in today's meditation. Enjoy!
